Signage for the Astra Dent Clinic Network
A new building in dark seam cladding, a corner unit in an apartment block, a heritage stone frontage. The size and make-up of the sign changed every time; the hard part was making a patient recognise the second clinic after the first.
Chain signage follows a different rule from one-off jobs: what matters is less the individual sign than whether the whole set stays recognisable. So for Astra Dent the same composition — the word for dentistry, the logo, the name — was carried onto facades with nothing in common.
On the new building with dark seam cladding, the sign sits on the unbroken horizontal band between floors, where there is room to stretch the line and it can be read from the road. On the corner unit in an apartment block, the installation works across two planes: the main run above the entrance and an end-wall panel with the phone number for people walking along the street. On the heritage stone facade the line was made shorter and lighter, with no phone number and nothing extra. Three things stayed constant across all of them: the proportion of logo to text, the green of the mark, and the colour temperature of the light. That is enough for the network to read as a network even when the signs themselves differ in size.
