Round Lightbox for the PLUSH Coffee Shop
The entrance is set into dark brick, with no canopy and no shopfront. In the evening a green lit disc beside the door marks it: on uneven brickwork a circle sits straighter than a rectangle.
The coffee shop occupies a corner unit in a dark brick building. There is no canopy and no wide shopfront — just a glass door and a narrow window. In the evening an entrance like that does not read at all: the warm light from inside only registers once you are already standing at the door.
So the sign ended up as a shape of light more than a word. A round illuminated box, green face, white logo, “coffee & bakery” underneath. A circle works better than a rectangle here: on brick with uneven pointing, a rectangular frame always looks slightly out of true, while a circle has no corners to expose the coursing.
The colour is a strong green, the only cool accent on a facade where everything else is brick and warm. The box stands a few centimetres off the wall and its edge is lit as well as its face, so it catches people walking along the wall as well as those coming towards it.
